Enabling poor rural people
to overcome poverty

Mali: Programme intégré de développement rural de la région de Kidal (PIDRK)

BFFS components

The goals of the JP components are to:

  • Improve access to basic health care and nutritional awareness
  • Promote primary education and training for young people
  • Raise awareness of HIV/AIDS

Security issues brought implementation of this project to a close for a prolonged period of time. However the full support of the local population has helped create a protective environment, allowing activities to resume. Some communities remain inaccessible due to the ongoing security situation. Because of these constraints, in early 2011 there were plans to revise the targeting approach.

In an area where the population is mostly nomadic, BFFS has funded studies to identify the best way of delivering health care services and education to the population, thus helping the Government of Mali rethink its current approach in this sector.

Health and nutrition

The project has launched workshops and training for local health workers to raise awareness of health issues and improve health status among the target population. This includes an information campaign on malaria, AIDS and other common diseases.

Education

The project has funded workshops on education and training to increase employment opportunities for young people.
