BFFS components
JP components aim at enhancing and strengthening household food security and nutrition, local governance and the capacity of civil society organizations. Interventions are organized under the following headings:

Health
The programme carried out various training workshops for community health workers, traditional birth attendants and extension workers in Chamwino, Bahi and Kondoa districts on environmental sanitation and community health issues. Refresher courses were provided to existing health workers in Chamwino, Kiteto and Kondoa districts.
In Kondoa district 612 latrine slabs have been cast and used in the construction of pit latrines. Community members have noted a reduction in the outbreak of diseases such as diarrhoea and cholera as a result.
Water
BFFS funding is used to construct boreholes, shallow wells, rainwater harvesting structures and other water delivery systems that provide clean safe water to communities. In Chamwino district water committees in 8 villages have received training in water management. In Bahi district village members were mobilized and sensitized in preparation for the construction of new infrastructure. In Kondoa district, once beneficiary needs had been identified, and community funds mobilized, beneficiaries received training in water management. Procurement of a contractor for the construction of 2 boreholes is underway, and hydrogeological surveys have been carried out in 5 villages. In Kiteto district procurement of a contractor for the construction of 1 borehole is underway.
Livestock
In Chamwino, 20 para-vets were selected. In Bahi, 14 new veterinary health workers and 14 para-vets were selected and trained as well as health and livestock committee members in 7 villages.
Extensive trainings and sensitization campaigns on the recognition and control of zoonotic diseases were launched in Chamwino district, and also in Bahi, Kiteto and Kondoa districts, for health workers and community members.
