Livestock Sector Development Project

The general objectives of the project were to expand meat and milk production while increasing poor herders’ incomes. It also had the aim of reducing the financial burden on the government of services provided to the livestock sector.

The project included activities designed to:

  • improve the efficiency of both traditional and modern livestock production sectors
  • promote the role of the private sector, especially that of herders’ associations, in providing inputs and services to producers
  • make parastatal enterprises profitable and competitive
  • boost the planning and extension services of the Ministry of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries
