Read more: IFAD’s strategy in Ghana Through its operations, IFAD supports the key development objectives of the country's Growth and Poverty Reduction Strategy (GPRS II), including economic growth, employment, service provision for human development and governance for empowerment. IFAD aligns its assistance with the country's main policies and strategies in the agricultural and rural sectors. Together with a group of 13 development partners, in 2005 IFAD concluded an agreement with the government to harmonize and align its operations with national development priorities. More recently, IFAD and its development partners worked together to elaborate a joint assistance strategy (G-JAS) to harmonize goals, processes and procedures according to the Paris declaration. IFAD's country strategic opportunities programme (COSOP) for Ghana focuses on developing a market-driven agricultural sector and a dynamic private sector for the period from 2006 to 2011. More specifically, IFAD helps rural poor people improve smallholder agriculture by supporting food production, small-scale irrigation and livestock activities. IFAD contributes to development of small and microenterprises, and agro-processing and artisanal activities. Investments also support the strengthening of local institutions, decentralization and participation of rural communities and institutions. IFAD plays a catalytic role by developing strategic partnerships and by financing loans and grants that support research, policy dialogue, knowledge sharing and innovation. Source: IFAD |
