Sahelian Areas Development Fund Programme
The aim of the Sahelian Areas Development Fund Programme (FODESA)
is to reduce the poverty of families in the Sahelian area by increasing
revenue and improving living conditions. The programme helps village
communities evaluate their needs and identify microprojects to which
they contribute in cash or in kind. Programme management is entirely
in the hands of village organizations, which decide on activities
to be carried out.
The microprojects engage in activities related to:
- production infrastructure, including small-scale irrigation,
storage and marketing, irrigated market gardening, reafforestation,
improved pastures and restored access roads
- social infrastructure, including sources of drinking water, basic
educational equipment and training for traditional midwives
- functional
literacy and management training
