Batha Rural Development Project
The project's objective is to improve incomes and food security for poor rural households in the Batha region. Agricultural productivity in the region is low. In many areas soil quality is poor and farmers have limited access to resources, especially land. There are few alternative options for income generation, and financial services are rare.
The project targets vulnerable groups in the region, including small-scale subsistence farmers practising rainfed agriculture and women and unemployed young people who are traditionally excluded from decision-making processes. Vulnerable groups, especially women and young people, have difficulty accessing resources and information to help them build a livelihood. There is a focus on improving community capabilities by forming grass-roots associations that can identify development needs and implement project activities. The project will:
