Sulawesi Paddy Land Development Project

Under the government’s transmigration programme, each relocated family was allotted 2 ha of land (0.25 ha for house and garden plot, 0.75 ha for upland cropping and 1.0 ha for paddy cultivation). Much of the land had not been cleared before the families had relocated, which delayed production. The project worked with the government to accelerate development of the area in a number of ways. It supported the completion of irrigation facilities, land clearing and paddy field formation. It also supported the construction and improvement of 153 km of roads and the establishment of road maintenance facilities.
