Market Strengthening and Livelihood Diversification in the Southern Highlands Project
The project will help some 120,000 poor Quechua and Aymara families living in the southern highlands of Peru improve the quality of their products, preserve their traditional knowledge and improve natural resources management to diversify their sources of income.
One of the programme’s most innovative features is the direct transfer of funds to peasant communities to enable small farmers and microentrepreneurs to contract for the technical assistance they need to make their products competitive in national, regional and international markets.
The project makes resources available specifically for women farmers to help them obtain property rights to land and legal recognition for their small handcraft businesses, and to enable them to manage their own savings.
