Government of Armenia presents IFAD with a gold medal

On 1 November 2006, during the inauguration ceremony of a water supply system for portable water and livestock water points financed by IFAD's Rural Areas Economic Development Programme in the mountain communities of Tsagkahovit, Sangyar, Vardablur, Rya-Taza and Shenkan, the Minister of Agriculture of Armenia, His Excellency David Lokyan, awarded Henning Pedersen, IFAD Country Programme Manager, a gold medal for IFAD's contribution to the development of the country’s rural and agricultural sectors over the past decade.
During the ceremony it was noted that IFAD's has contributed to:

  • the creation of the Agricultural Cooperative Bank or Armenia, currently the most successful rural financial institution in Armenia
  • financing close to one hundred infrastructure projects essential for the improvement of the livelihood for the most disadvantaged part of the rural population
  • recently setting up of refinancing fund where a number of private financial institutions can access funding for activities in the poorest areas of Armenia
