Northern Province Irrigation Rehabilitation Project – Phase II

The project area covered four separate irrigation schemes in the Merowe district, targeting small-scale farmers whose livelihoods had been severely affected by deterioration of the irrigation system. The overall objective was to increase food production and the farm incomes of small-scale farmers and rural women. Specifically the project focused on:

  • investing in irrigation rehabilitation
  • financing investment in farm materials such as seed and fertilizer
  • preventing further desertification
