Enabling poor rural people
to overcome poverty

What is micro-irrigation system?

Micro irrigation system (MIS) is an irrigation method that helps smallholder farmers to save water and fertilizer. MIS allows farmers to irrigate their land with low and regular flow of water. Thanks to MIS, farmers are able to irrigate larger areas, thus maximizing crop productivity and yield and as a result increase their income.

MIS components consist of: plastic pipes, pumps or pressurized water source, valves, tubes and emitters.

Differences between traditional and micro-irrigation systems

Traditional irrigation Micro-irrigation system
  • labour intensive
  • inefficient water management
  • low food productivity
  • efficient water management
  • increase food productivity
  • low cost and user friendly

 SCAMPIS technologies

Bag and bucket kit

The bag/bucket kit can irrigate 20m²(4mx5m) plot area. The system operates with the force of gravity and needs no additional fue and/or /electricity. Simply placing the bucket at a height of 1.5 m above ground level enables gravitational forces to be effective in ensuring flow of water through the system to irrigate the plants. These are mostly used by landless farmers to irrigate their vegetable gardens.

Bag and drum kit

This kit is useful for cultivating small commercial vegetable gardens. In a minimum area of 100 sqm, the drum kit comprises a 200 litres water storage viz. drum, barrel, tank. The bag/drum is placed at 1 metre height. The system operates with the force of gravity.

Surface treadle pump

The treadle pump is a human-powered irrigation device that sits on top of a well or any kind of water surface stream.

The pump is activated by stepping on treadles which activate the pistons, creating cylinder suction that draws groundwater to the surface. With treadle pumps farmers are no longer exclusively dependent on rain-fed irrigation. This technology allows farmer to irrigate their land for longer periods.

Liquid organic fertilizer

Liquid organic fertilizer consists of liquid plant growth regulator that contains high amount of micro-nutrients,  enzymes, vitamins and hormones and is used to boost farm productivity. It is applied by spray or drip lines and acts as organic fertilizer and pesticide.

SCAMPIS produces the following organic fertilizers:

  • Vermiwash for plant growth
  • Pot manure for plant growth
  • Magic tonic organic pesticide
