Objective: Workshop participants analyse project management methods and approaches that support the planning, monitoring and achievement of impact. Results of this analysis will be synthesised into lessons learnt for future application.

By the end of the workshop

  • ..... participants had gained an overview of selected methods and procedures on how to organise participatory processes for analysis, decision making and planning.

  • ..... practical examples/best practices were explored on how participatory methods and management approaches can be used together with Logframe to plan for, monitor and achieve impact.

  • ..... experiences of practitioners were exchanged and a contribution made to the ongoing process of IFAD to orient further its work towards impact achievement.

Participants: IFAD Directors, Country Portfolio Managers, Regional Economists and Evaluation Officers, project managers and/or M&E officers, representatives of Cooperating Institutions, bi-laterals, multi-laterals and NGOs, action-research academics and practioners.

Methodology:Visualised presentations of case studies, best practices, field experiences, etc. Plenary and small group discussions. Emphasis of the workshop was on practical, tested methods.

Plenary Sessions The plenary sessions provided an overview of different project management approaches. The overviews made specific references to how the results of participatory approaches had been accommodated in project design/implementation to achieve impact.

Working Groups: Working Groups further developed the concepts advanced in the plenary sessions. The discussions centred around: (i) Increasing project impact through participatory approaches; (ii) Integrating management tools with the project management process; (iii) Introducing greater impact orientation at the institutional level. Facilitators for the Working Groups were chosen from among the invited resource persons. IFAD staff acted as rapporteurs. The findings of each group were reported back to the plenary on the final day.
