IFAD, together with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the International Forum for Rural Transport and Development (IFRTD) convened a one and half-day international workshop on Rural Roads, Transportation and Travel (RTT)1 from 24-25th June, 2008, in
Rome. The workshop brought together representatives from renowned global expertise and practitioners in RTT to learn, share and exchange knowledge, experiences, best practices and innovations as well as to network for rural poverty reduction.

The workshop also provided the impetus for IFAD to enhance its pro-poor RTT operations. The overall objective of the workshop was to mobilise service support to enhance the scope and performance of IFAD investments in RTT and to establish the basis of institutionalising such support.

The workshop was fully supported with Finnish Supplementary Funds, and ILO and IFRTD inkind contributions.
