Enabling poor rural people
to overcome poverty

The first World Congress on Communication for Development (WCCD), scheduled to take place in October 25-27, 2006 in Rome, Italy, is jointly organized by the World Bank, FAO and The Communication Initiative Network. It will bring together in the same forum and for the first time communication professionals engaged in development initiatives, policy- and decision-makers, practitioners, donor and NGO representatives, community
representatives, and academics from around the world.

The goal of the WCCD is to incorporate communication for development into mainstream development policies and practice by demonstrating its value-added, providing evidence of its impact in increasing sustainability
of development interventions, and consolidating the theories and methodologies of the discipline. The discussions will be structured around four broad themes

  • Health
  • Governance
  • Sustainable Development
  • New Frontiers in Communication
