The UN Commission on the Status of Women (1 to 12 March 2010) undertakes a fifteen-year review of the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and the outcomes of the twenty-third special session of the General Assembly. Emphasis is placed on the sharing of experiences and good practices, with a view to overcoming remaining obstacles and new challenges, including those related to the Millennium Development Goals. Member States, representatives of non-governmental organizations and of UN entities also participate in the session. A series of parallel events are also taking place.
IFAD delivered a statement to the UN Commission on the Status of Women and Jointly with the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, organized a side event on indigenous women as well. Speakers included Ms. Tarcila Rivera Zea (Peru), Ms. Victoria Haraseb (Namibia), Ms. Govind Kelkar (India) and Ms. Megan Davis (Australia).
