IFAD is a specialized agency of the United Nations dedicated to eradicating poverty and hunger in developing countries. Through low-interest loans and grants, IFAD develops and finances programmes and projects that enable rural poor people to overcome poverty themselves.

Internal conflicts, like the one in Burundi, are among the greatest contributors to poverty. Not only do they disrupt and destroy lives, but they discourage trade, investment and economic growth.
