The Orissa Government has launched the Orissa Tribal Empowerment and Livelihood Programme with the objective of improving the quality of life of poor tribal households in remote areas through livelihood support and food security.

The Rs. 430-crore programme is to be funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), U.K. Government's Department for International Development (DFID) and World Food Programme (WFP) in partnership with the Orissa Government. It would be implemented in three phases over a period of 10 years.

The programme would cover 30 of the most backward blocks with tribal concentrations in the districts of Gajapati, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nawrangpur and Rayagada.
