大村由紀子が貧困撲滅に取組む国連専門機関の国際農業開発基金の副総裁に就任

貧困撲滅のため農業開発への投資を呼び戻そう

世銀グループの多国間投資保証機関で長官を務めた大村由紀子（日本国籍）が２月１日付けで貧困撲滅のため農村地域への投資を推進する国連専門機関の国際農業開発基金の副総裁に就任した。

今年のダボス世界経済会合でも確認された通り、途上国の農村地域の経済成長を牽引し貧困を撲滅するには民間セクターとの協力関係が益々重要であり、国際金融開発分野で２５年以上に亘り活躍してきた大村新副総裁の経験は貴重な財産となる。

「新興市場での仕事の経験より、途上国には事業採算的にも開発政策面からも有効な投資機会が沢山ある。こうした投資機会を途上国の雇用創出、所得増大に繋げるには、民間投資家、金融機関、政府機関、開発機関が一致協力することが大事であり、持続可能な経済発展を支える投資は参加者全員に恩恵を与える。」と大村新副総裁は説く。

「経済成長のための農業部門の役割が世界のリーダー達に再認識される重要な時期に国際農業開発基金の新副総裁に就任することは大きな意味がある。農業は気候変動と食料安全といった今日の２つの緊急課題が交錯する領域であり、農村部門の開発促進のための金融援助を専門とする大手機関である国際農業開発基金は、貧困撲滅の鍵を握るこうした課題克服の解決策をもたらす上で大変重要な役割を担っている。」と大村新副総裁は力強く述べる。
