Effectiveness of IFAD/NGO Collaboration

The second Consultation, held in June 1991, was attended by 23 NGOs, of which 11 were from the south, 10 from Europe and 2 from North America. Representatives of the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the United Nations Non-Governmental Liaison Service (NGLS) attended the Consultation as observers. One of the main purposes of this meeting was to evaluate the effectiveness of IFAD/NGO cooperation through the assessment of two case studies. The terms of reference of the Annual Consultations and the Advisory Group (now Consultation Steering Committee) were also reviewed, as well as IFAD's project pipeline. Individual meetings were organized between NGOs and IFAD Country Portfolio Managers to examine specific project-related proposals for collaboration. During the Consultation, it was also agreed to establish a database of successful, replicable NGO projects.
