In September 2003, IFAD adopted a new procedure for disseminating information on its project and programme pipeline and prospective lending programme.

Previously, detailed project and programme descriptions were provided to the Executive Board in the Planned Project Activities document submitted to each session. Under the new procedure, a two-page information note is prepared for each project/programme and posted on the website upon approval of the inception memorandum.

The two-page notes provide brief information about the operation, including:

  • Project/programme type
  • Stage of project/programme cycle
  • Potential cofinancing
  • Objectives
  • Target group
  • Main components
  • Important features

The notes are updated upon completion of each major step in the project cycle and are posted on the IFAD website in the organization’s four official languages. Contact details are provided for further information on each operation.

This new procedure is intended to:

  • provide project/programme-related information in a more timely and efficient manner,
  • fully explore cofinancing opportunities early on in the design stage, and
  • increase public awareness, knowledge and interest vis-à-vis the activities of IFAD and other development organizations.
