Belize
Between 1985 and 2005, IFAD has invested in two rural development projects in Belize, which were both located in the southern part of the country, where poverty is most widespread and severe, particularly among the Maya and Garifuna ethnic groups. The projects were the Toledo Small Farmers Development Project, which closed in 1995, and the Community-Initiated Agriculture and Resource Management Project, which closed in 2005. The ongoing Rural Finance Programme is IFAD's third operation in Belize. Read more


Bolivia
Since 1979, more than US$114 million in IFAD financing has supported 12 projects that have invested a total of US$229 million in rural communities in Bolivia. This work has directly benefited some 236,000 households. Read more


Brazil
IFAD began its operations in Brazil in 1980. To date, IFAD has provided a total of US$211.6 million in loans for nine programmes and projects. Read more

Colombia
IFAD has funded four operations in Colombia with a total cost of US$163.8 million. In 1981 the Executive Board approved the first project, the Rural Development Project Auraca II, now closed. Political violence affected the project's implementation. IFAD resumed operations in 1996 with the Rural Microenterprise Development Programme, also now closed. The Rural Microenterprise Assets Programme and the Building Rural Entrepreneurial Capacities Programme are ongoing. Dominica Republic
IFAD has approved loans for a total of US$75.9 million for seven programmes and projects in the country amounting to a total cost of US$235.7 million. Five IFAD operations have been completed. Read more


Ecuador
El FIDA trabaja desde 1983 en Ecuador. Desde entonces ha recibido siete préstamos por un valor de 89,7 millones de dólares. Ecuador se ha beneficiado, además, de cinco donaciones del Fondo a programas regionales de desarrollo rural y apoyo a los pueblos indígenas amazónicos por un valor de  3 195 000 dólares. Read more


El Salvador
El FIDA trabaja en El Salvador desde 1985. Desde entonces ha otorgado 9 préstamos por un valor total de 125,5 millones de dólares. El aporte del FIDA se ha sumado al del Gobierno de El Salvador, otros donantes y los propios beneficiarios, y juntos han aportado más de 135,3 millones de dólares para financiar proyectos y programas que tuvieron un costo total de 260,8 millones de dólares. Grenada
In 1981 IFAD financed the first project in Grenada, approving a loan of US$1.5 million to the government for its Artisanal Fisheries Development Project. The Rural Enterprise Project was active from 2002 to 2009, with a loan of US$4.2 million. IFAD is currently supporting the Market Access and Rural Entrerprise Development Programme, approved in 2010. Guatemala
IFAD has supported the rural poverty reduction and agricultural and rural development initiatives of Guatemala since 1986. During its first decade in the country, IFAD's work was oriented towards supporting the government in consolidating the peace process and rebuilding the social fabric in zones that were affected by the 36-year armed conflict, and constructing an economic and institutional platform for the development of marginalized rural and indigenous communities. Read more


Guyana
IFAD finances one ongoing project in the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, the Rural Enterprise and Agricultural Development Project (READ). The overall goal of READ is to contribute to the improvement of the social and economic conditions of resource-poor households, especially small-scale producers and vulnerable groups, increasing their human, social, organizational and financial assets. Haiti
IFAD is a major technical and financial partner in rural development in Haiti. The organization began operations in Haiti in 1978. Since then IFAD has approved loans totalling US$110.7 million for eight programmes and projects with a total cost of US$181.2 million. Through a participatory, community–based approach, IFAD invests in building the capacities of communities, promoting production initiatives and providing poor rural people with access to financial services. Programmes and projects under way and planned by IFAD are in line with the government's poverty reduction strategy. Read more


Honduras
IFAD loans and grants have supported the government's investments in poverty reduction programmes since 1979. Before 1998, when Hurricane Mitch devastated the country, we were one of the only international institutions investing in rural development and poverty alleviation in Honduras. IFAD also designed one of the first projects to be implemented after the disastrous hurricane: the National Fund for Sustainable Rural Development Project (FONADERS). Read more

Mexico

Nicaragua
IFAD has collaborated with the Government of Nicaragua since 1980, funding projects that support and promote rural poor people's access to assets and opportunities in order to build their capacities as individuals and as groups. The projects focus on enhancing employment opportunities for wage labourers, small farmers and livestock herders, and people engaged in other rural activities, including small-scale non-agricultural enterprises. In all IFAD-funded operations in the country special emphasis is placed on helping vulnerable groups such as women and young people.  Read more

 


Panama
Since 1982 IFAD has approved eight loans to Panama for a total of US$80.7 million, for projects with a total cost of US$193.7 million. The organization has also financed three grants for a total of US$325,000. Read more

Peru
Since 1980, IFAD has provided nine loans to Peru for a total of US$144 million, directly benefitting more than 160,000 households. All but one of the IFAD-supported projects have addressed the needs of small-scale farmers in the southern highlands, Peru's poorest region. Uruguay
El trabajo del FIDA en Uruguay se desarrolla en dos niveles distintos aunque complementarios:

  • A nivel subregional, en el marco de las instituciones del MERCOSUR, promueve una plataforma de diálogo entre gobiernos y asociaciones de pequeños productores, con el fin de aumentar la relevancia política de la agricultura familiar y la inversión pública en su favor
  • A nivel nacional, proporciona financiación y asistencia técnica al gobierno para la ejecución de programas y proyectos que traduzcan en acciones las políticas públicas definidas en el ámbito de la subregión y adaptadas al contexto del país.

Venezuela
IFAD has approved six loans to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela for an approximate total of US$80.0 million. The organization also approved two technical assistance grants in 1991 and 1998 for the Regional Training Programme in Rural Development, implemented by the Foundation for Training and Applied Research in Agrarian Reform (CIARA), which is part of the Ministry of Agriculture and Land.
