Markets - Poor get Better Prices with Imporved Market Access

The further away rural people are from towns and cities, the poorer they are. It costs them a lot of money to travel to the markets in the towns and to arrange for the things they make to be sold. And they need to be able to get to markets so they can buy things from other people as well as sell things. Cultural norms about gender roles, restrictions on physical mobility, and gender wage differentials present special problems for women to access and benefit from markets. Markets offer opportunities to the rural poor to sell their products at a good price, and buy the cheapest. For this to happen, local markets and infrastructure need to be developed so that the poor have access to markets on better terms.
