Presents IFAD’s evolution over the past 20 years, as well as the activities undertaken during 1997. Each of the regions in which the organization operates are discussed, with special attention given to the strategic overview and innovative features of the projects approved in each region. Individual chapters are dedicated to resource strategy and partnership, international research, evaluation and studies, and the organization of IFAD.

BSF Joint Programme Annual Report 1997
Presents a report of 1997 activities carried out by the Belgian Survival Fund Joint Programme, whose annual budget is USD 12 million, allocated for cofinancing IFAD projects in Angola, Burkina Faso, Chad, DR Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mali, Rwanda, Somalia, the United Republic of Tanzania and Uganda. By the end of 1997, 27 projects had been approved, with a total financial commitment of approximately USD 90 million. The current portfolio comprises 17 ongoing projects in 10 of the programmes 12 target countries.

Presents the activities undertaken during 1997, the audited financial statements for 1998 and 1997, and introduces two major changes: the contents are tailored to make them more logical and reader-friendly by positioning IFAD’s work within the context of global events and bringing the information in line with the Fund’s corporate strategy; the graphic presentation, conceived and executed in-house, has been changed and adapted to the new style of contents.
