On 17 November 2011, IFAD’s Financing Facility for Remittances (FFR) will hold its annual meeting.

The meeting marks the FFR’s fifth year of operations and will bring together key players and partner institutions in the field of remittances and migration from the world.

The event will showcase FFR-financed projects,and focus on new opportunities, initiatives, partnerships and the road ahead.   

With over US$ 350 billion to be sent home by migrant workers to their families in developing countries this year, the impact of remittances on development has never been greater. This is presents an opportunity for international organizations to identify and implement successful models that amplify the impact of remittance flows. FFR and its partners will highlight a broad range of topics including;

  • the joint IFAD-US State Department Diaspora Investment in Agriculture initiative
  • FFR support of private sector initiatives
  • scaling-up of postal network modernization for rural financial inclusion
  • leapfrogging the rural-urban divide through Mobile Financial Services
  • using remittance flows to enhance the impact of Microfinance Networks
