BSF Activities
The activities of the Belgian Survival Fund (BSF) are organized
around five programmes based on the single objective of improving
food and nutritional security for households, but with approaches
specific to the institutions through which the projects are implemented.
- Joint Programme with IFAD and the participating agencies: the World
Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF)
and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) (30 grants have
been approved for a total of 3.6 billion Belgian francs (BEF). A new
partnership is being arranged in the context of the 2001-2011 Strategy,
with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the World Health
Organizaton (WHO) and the Popular
Coalition.
- Programme in conjunction with international organizations: the
Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO),
the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) and UNICEF
(eight grants have been approved for a total of BEF 774 million).
- Programme in conjunction with Belgian non-governmental organizations
(NGOs): six projects for a total of BEF 247 million were approved
in 1998, bringing the total to BEF 1.8 billion.
- Bilateral food security project/programme, for a total of BEF 204
million.
