IFAD particularly welcomes the social development thrust of the BSF.JP as partner of a wider community development programme. One of the key elements of IFAD's operational strategy is its emphasis on beneficiary participation in project design and implementation, which is also of vital importance in the implementation of IFAD/BSF.JP projects. Such participatory planning from the bottom up, combined with local capacity-building, has led not only to a tangible increase in the household food and nutritional security of the under-privileged segments of rural society but has also paid handsome dividends in terms of improving the security of their livelihood.
