Agrarian reform and protecting land and environmental defenders at heart of Global Land Forum declaration

Agrarian reform and protecting land and environmental defenders are two urgent areas for action called for by members of the International Land Coalition (ILC) in the Bandung declaration. The declaration was adopted at ILC's Assembly of Members on 27 September 2018, following the Global Land Forum.

ILC is a global alliance of civil society and intergovernmental organisations working together to put people at the centre of land governance. The shared goal of ILC's 256 members from 77 countries is to realise land governance for and with people at the country level, responding to the needs and protecting the rights of women, men and communities who live on and from the land.

ILC provides a space where some of the most difficult land-related issues can be brought to the table for open and constructive dialogue. The Global Land Forum and Assembly of Members is an occasion that brings members of the ILC network together to build consensus on often highly controversial issues such as land grabbing and inclusive land governance.

Diversity is ILC’s strength, because when consensus is reached it is all the more powerful in shaping the global land rights and land governance agenda. As a founding member, IFAD has engaged actively in the ILC network since its inception in 1995. IFAD is a member and hosts the global secretariat.
