Rural resilience: addressing the climate change and poverty nexus

Join IFAD at COP27 in addressing the nexus between climate change and poverty and discover how modern agricultural practices and climate change adaptation can become part of the solution.

In this side event on 12 November we will shed light on the successful examples of how climate-smart agriculture, early warning systems and modern irrigation have contributed to building rural resilience in Egypt and how these methods can be replicated across the NEN region.

We will also showcase how climate finance can strengthen rural farmers in the face of increasingly erratic weather and how solar pumps, rainwater harvesting and community-based rangeland management can help them cope with long-term climate impacts.

The panel will include SAIL National Coordinator Dr. Hany Darwish, PRIDE National Coordinator Dr. Naiem Moslehy, Dr. Magdy Allam from the Global Environment Facility and engineer Manal Zein AlAbedeen, a Monitoring and Evaluation Consultant on the SAIL project. The moderator will be Dr. Mohamed Abdelgadir, Head of IFAD’s Cairo Multi-Country Office and Egypt Country Director.
