يواجه المزارعون والرعاة في قرية Yarwa الصغيرة، الواقعة في المنطقة شبه القاحلة في السودان، عدة تهديدات لأنماط حياتهم. ويؤدي تغير المناخ والتدهور البيئي إلى إتلاف الأراضي وتدمير الغابات وزيادة مخاطر الجفاف، في حين أن نمو الأعمال التجارية الآلية يقلل من فرص وصولهم إلى الأراضي.

جاءت جائحة كوفيد-19. ومثل أي شخص آخر، تقيّدت تحركات المرشدين الزراعيين. فلم يتمكنوا من مساعدة المزارعين على مواجهة التحديات الجديدة التي فرضتها الجائحة، مثل إيجاد بدائل للمدخلات الزراعية التي لم تعد متوافرة، أو الإنتاج بفعالية من حيث التكلفة بموارد محدودة.

ويواجه السكان الريفيون في فييت نام معضلة: فهم بحاجة إلى الزراعة من أجل الحصول على الطعام وكسب الرزق. ولكن إذا لم يفعلوا ذلك بشكل مستدام، فقد تؤدي الزراعة إلى إتلاف الأراضي وتدهور الغابات.

عين اليوم الصندوق الدولي للتنمية الزراعية (إيفاد) كبير مسؤوليه الماليين، Alvaro Lario، في منصب الرئيس القادم، ليختار الصندوق بذلك خبيرا في استثمارات القطاع الخاص لقيادة وكالة الأمم المتحدة للتصدي لأزمة الأمن الغذائي العالمية التي اندلعت بسبب الحرب في أوكرانيا والتغيرات المناخية والتوابع الاقتصادية السلبية لجائحة COVID-19.

أفاد تقرير للأمم المتحدة قدّم أدلة جديدة على أن العالم يبتعد أكثر فأكثر عن تحقيق هدف القضاء على الجوع وانعدام الأمن الغذائي وسوء التغذية بجميع أشكاله بحلول عام 2030، بأن عدد الأشخاص الذين يعانون الجوع في العالم قد ارتفع إلى حوالي 828 مليون شخص في عام 2021، أي بزيادة قدرها نحو 46 مليون شخص منذ عام 2020 و150 مليون شخص منذ تفشي جائحة كوفيد-19 (1).
