Peasant Development Fund Credit Project – Eastern Region of Paraguay

The principal components of this project included financial services, technical assistance and evaluation – with a focus on smallholder farmers, small enterprises and agricultural cooperatives in Paraguay's eastern provinces. The project was framed within the government's rural poverty reduction and small-scale agricultural development strategies.

The target group comprised farming households with holdings of less than 20 ha and annual income below the poverty line. The main objectives were to improve the credit system serving farmers in the target group, and to develop and diversify the supply of financial services available to small-scale producers' and micro-entrepreneurs in rural areas.
