Tarek Ahmed

Tarek Ahmed is Country Programme Manager, responsible for operations in Near East, North Africa and Europe Division, providing technical and managerial leadership to the development and execution of country programmes. He oversees the promotion of poor rural peoples’ capacities and access to natural resources, agricultural technologies, financial services, markets and employment opportunities.

Ahmed joined IFAD from the African Development Bank in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire where he held the position of Irrigation/Water Engineer. He brings experiences from the Nile Basin Initiative (NBI) where he was based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia as Lead Specialist of the NBI's Project Planning and Management component. He previously served as Water Expert at the World Water Council in Marseilles, France, and as Post-Doctoral Researcher at Loughborough University (UK).

Ahmed holds a PhD and an MSc from the University of Southampton, UK, and a BSc from Cairo University, Egypt. He also holds a Diplôme de l'École Nationale d'Administration (ENA) (France).
