The  2030 Agenda is an ambitious plan of action to create a better world and leave no one behind. It applies to all countries and spans social, environmental and economic issues.

Seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) guide how to achieve this plan. IFAD works to end poverty (SDG1) and hunger (SDG2), but our transformative power goes well beyond that, contributing to 16 SDGs. In particular:

  • SDG4 quality education: IFAD provides poor rural people with the tools and skills to develop businesses.

  • SDG7 affordable and clean energy: IFAD helps people access technology that sequesters carbon or reduces greenhouse gas emissions.

  • SDG9 industry, innovation and infrastructure: IFAD constructs and upgrades roads to link rural producers to markets.

  • SDG13 climate action: IFAD invests in sustainable agriculture to preserve and restore natural resources and increase farmers’ resilience to climate change.
