Climate and environment
The lives of small-scale farmers are being upended by climate change. They need support to adapt to climate change and to protect the planet’s precious resources
Food systems encompass all activities involved in the production, processing, distribution, consumption and disposal of food. Unsustainable food systems harm the planet and produce less nutritious food. That is why food systems are at the forefront of efforts to conserve biodiversity and address climate change.
The Food Systems Integrated Program (FSIP) addresses unsustainability in each step of the food system. It does so by transforming value chains, business models, finance, policy and institutional frameworks. It is funded by the Global Environment Facility and is one of the integrated programmes led by IFAD and FAO.
FSIP operates at the global level through the Global Coordination Platform which addresses policy and governance, the private sector, innovation, technical support, knowledge management, and monitoring and evaluation. FSIP operates at the national level through 32 country projects targeting four agricultural sectors: crops, commodities, livestock and aquaculture.
