Lead Technical Specialist, Environment and Climate – Near East, North Africa, Europe and Central Asia

Nicolas Tremblay

To ensure that IFAD project benefits are sustainable, Tremblay supports the mainstreaming of environment and climate concerns in IFAD operations in Near East, North Africa, Europe and Central Asia.

This is achieved through technical assistance for programme and project development, oversight of social, environmental and climate studies, identification of funding opportunities to support adaptation to climate change, and strategic planning of environment-related IFAD interventions.

Tremblay is a Professional Engineer. His career features experience with the UN, the private sector and civil society organizations. He has contributed to the work of all three Rome-based UN agencies.

Before joining IFAD, Tremblay was Inter-regional Adviser on Sustainable Development with the UN's Department of Economic and Social Affairs in New York, supporting the roll-out of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Prior to that, he acted as Programme Coordinator for FAO's emergency operations in Somalia.

Tremblay holds a Bachelor Degree in Engineering from the University of Guelph, Canada, where he was awarded the W.C. Winegard Medal for overall academic and extra-curricular achievement.

He has an MSc from the École Polytechnique in Montreal, Canada.
