Assessing our impact
IFAD's impact assessments accurately measure and report on the impact of our work
The International Fund for Agricultural Development aims to eliminate hunger and poverty by investing in rural people through programmes and projects that reflect the objectives of our Strategic Framework 2016-2025, including:
enabling their participation in markets.
strengthening the environmental sustainability and climate resilience of their livelihoods.
IFAD uses a performance-based allocation system (PBAS) to distribute funding for our projects.
This determines how much financing to allocate to a country through a formula that assesses a country’s needs, performance and vulnerability. This approach ensures that our funds go to those most in need, while being used effectively to produce measurable results.
National staff implement IFAD-financed projects with support from IFAD staff at Headquarters and throughout our 40 country offices. Recipients procure goods and services following IFAD’s Project Procurement Guidelines.
First, a country strategic opportunities programme (COSOP) is developed which aligns rural development possibilities with government priorities.
COSOPs inform the design of programmes and projects. They then undergo a rigorous quality enhancement and assurance process with inputs from technical experts and external peer reviewers.
Following negotiation of the financing agreement between IFAD and the borrower, the project goes to the Executive Board for approval.
