Supporting transformative policies

Policies influence how poor rural people make a living and, in doing so, lift themselves out of poverty. IFAD promotes policies, processes and institutions that enable inclusive, resilient and sustainable rural transformation.
Country-level policy engagement

IFAD collaborates with local and national governments to design, implement, monitor and assess the effectiveness of policies. We support the participation of poor rural people in policy processes and we strengthen the capacity of policymaking institutions.

We promote policies, processes and institutions that are evidence-based and empower rural people to sustainably pull themselves out of poverty.

Global policy engagement

We engage with partners in inter-governmental forums and multi-stakeholder platforms to promote policies that support inclusive and sustainable rural transformation and food systems.

Our main partners include our Member States, the Rome-based Agencies, International Financial Institutions, farmers’ organizations and Indigenous Peoples’ organizations, among others.
