With the Latin America and the Caribbean region being hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic, we ask how best to integrate reforms in social protection programmes with agricultural and rural interventions to benefit family farmers and improve their resilience.

This event is one of three high-level webinars organized by IFAD, FAO and WFP to enrich Latin America and the Caribbean’s regional dialogues in preparation for the Food Systems Summit. It will bring together international experts and political representatives to discuss how to build better local, national and regional food systems through articulated social protection and productive inclusion policies.

The webinar will be held in Spanish. Interpretation into English and Portuguese will be available. For more details, please contact: [email protected].

For a long time, IFAD has worked to foster a better understanding of the relationship between social protection and productive inclusion programmes in rural areas. Research supported through an IFAD grant awarded to Universidad de los Andes, and implemented with FAO, shows that coordination between both types of programmes creates the most effective conditions for poor and at-risk rural households to sustainably escape the poverty trap and break its inter-generational transmission.
