IFAD at the General Assembly of the United Nations

The UN General Assembly (UNGA) is the main policy-making organ of the Organization. Comprising all Member States, it provides a unique forum for multilateral discussion of the full spectrum of international issues covered by the Charter of the United Nations. Each of the 193 Member States of the United Nations has an equal vote.

President-elect Alvaro Lario will represent IFAD and the world's poor rural people at the 77th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 77) and highlight IFAD’s key role in tackling the looming food crisis and achieving the 2030 Agenda.

As part of the Clinton Global Initiative 2022 meeting, President-elect Lario will speak on this panel to discuss critical climate adaptation strategies, as well as increasing climate financing. Find out more.

 

High-level Roundtable of the Secretary-General's Global Crisis Response Group

As part of the Global Crisis Response Group, the UN Secretary General, António Guterres, will lead a discussion on trade, food security, energy and finance.
