FAO HQ, Rome

Family farmers produce 80 per cent of the world’s food while managing natural resources, withstanding climate events, ensuring the cohesion of rural communities and preserving cultural heritage.

With stronger support through public policies and investments, family farmers could do much more. The United Nations Decade of Family Farming 2019–28 (UNDFF) provides a framework to develop, improve and implement public policies and investments supporting family farming.

To mark the halfway point of the UNDFF, the Global Family Farming Forum will celebrate family farming as the backbone of diverse, innovative and dynamic agrifood systems. It will also identify policy innovations that support family farming and showcase success stories from around the world. Led by young farmers, the Forum will guide discussions on priorities for the future of agrifood systems.
