[email protected]On 30 November at 11:00 Santiago, Chile time/ 09:00 Washington, DC, 09:00 Panama City, Panama five UN agencies will present the latest edition of the Regional Overview of Food Security and Nutrition in Latin America and the Caribbean 2021.
The report provides the latest statistic and analyzes the trends regarding food security and nutrition in the region, and shows a deeply worrying scenario.
According to the Regional Overview, the number of people suffering hunger is at its highest point since the year 2000, with a 30 percent increase just between 2019 and 2020. Four in every ten people suffered food insecurity during 2020, and one in four adults suffers obesity.
The region has shown important progress in reducing stunting in the last 20 years; however, between 2012 and 2020, the rate of decrease has slowed. Overweight in children under five years has been steadily increasing over the last two decades.
The Regional Overview will be presented through a Zoom press conference by authorities of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO/WHO), the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the World Food Program (WFP).
