Alessandra Garbero is Senior Econometrician in the Research and Impact Assessment Division. Her work focuses on impact assessment methodologies and applied econometrics in developing regions.
Before joining IFAD, she was a research scholar at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis, where she was part of a team of analysts working on analytical, methodological and modelling research. Garbero previously worked at the United Nations Population Division on population projections, and at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations on the impact of HIV/AIDS on food security and agriculture, and on improving the collection, dissemination and use of gender-disaggregated data in rural development. She also developed a methodology to evaluate the impact of HIV/AIDS on the agricultural labour force.
She obtained her PhD from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Her first degree was in economics, and she specialized in demography and research methods.
