A decade of progress for small-scale farmers in Cuba
Marking ten years in Cuba, IFAD’s Country Director met small-scale farmers and partners to discuss progress made and what is yet to be done.
Juan Diego Ruiz Cumplido is Head of the sub-regional IFAD Hub for Mexico, Central America & the Caribbean, based in Panama City. While overseeing the global management within the sub-regional portfolio assigned, he is Country Director for Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua and Panama.
Before joining the Fund in 2016, Cumplido was Resident Representative of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) in Bolivia, Cuba and Peru. His earlier positions include Rural Development & Natural Resources Management Program Officer at the Spanish Cooperation in Argentina, Bolivia, Ecuador (the Galapagos Islands) and Honduras.
Cumplido holds a Ph D in Economic Growth and Sustainable Development from the National University of Spain; an M Sc in One Health from the University of Edinburgh, UK; a Postgraduate Certificate in Rural Development in the Tropics from the National Autonomous University of Mexico; and a B Sc in Veterinary Sciences (Animal health) from the University of Cordoba, Spain.
