Dr Valantine Achancho is IFAD’s Country Director for Bangladesh. In this role, Achancho advocates for and enhances government programmes that strengthen climate resilience in vulnerable rural communities. This includes improving access to inclusive financing, technology and markets.
Achancho previously served as IFAD Country Director for the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Republic of Congo, Niger, Burkina Faso and Chad. He also served as IFAD Country Programme Officer for Cameroon, Gabon and the Indian Ocean region. Before joining IFAD in 2011, Achancho was Deputy Director of Farmers Professional Organizations and Cooperatives (SDOPAC). He was also a senior engineer in Cameroon’s Ministry of Agriculture.
Achancho holds a PhD in Sociology for Development from the Paris Institute of Technology for Life, Food and Environmental Sciences, a master's degree in tropical and subtropical Agronomy from Centre National d' Etudes Agronomiques des Regions Chaudes and a master’s degree in agricultural economics from the University of Dschang, Cameroon.
