Wadi Beihan Agricultural Development Project
To improve the living conditions of poor rural people in an area covering about 4,500 ha in north-western Yemen, the project provided assistance that included extension, training, technology and infrastructure. The project worked to provide local communities with:
- ten extension centres
- a pilot farm for field trials of improved practices and a comparative study of irrigation systems
- in-service training of extension workers
- vehicles, farm equipment and inputs for demonstrations and field trials
- equipment, material and staff for rehabilitation and maintenance of irrigation systems and for erosion control
- a citrus orchard
- improved feeder roads
- weather stations and equipment for machinery rental stations
- technical assistance for project management
