Small Scale Food Producers Development Project - IFAD
Small Scale Food Producers Development Project
The objective of the project, which was located in the southern border regions of the country, was to help small-scale farmers and artisanal fishers improve their incomes and living conditions.
The project’s aims were to enable poor rural people to:
- increase their agricultural production and the volume of fishers’ catch
- improve their access to markets, credit and community services
- increase their incomes and health standards
- reduce erosion
- collaborate in developing an effective system for project evaluation
There was a focus on providing credit so that farmers could purchase fertiliser, tools and livestock and so that fishers could buy boats and equipment.
Other activities included construction and rehabilitation of rural roads, promotion of rural financial services, construction and operation of clinics and integrated rural services centres, and extension services.
