Second Uttar Pradesh Public Tubewells Project - IFAD
The ultimate aim of this project was to reduce poverty and create rural employment through improved agricultural production. IFAD and the World Bank were the project cofinanciers. The project focused on the construction and upgrading of public tubewell systems to provide reliable, timely and equitable irrigation services.
The tubewell construction was part of a comprehensive agricultural development programme to help farmers transform local agriculture. The best results were achieved where farmers already had experience with irrigation, the social structure was fairly homogeneous and the supply of utilities was reliable.
