Tashigang and Mongar Area Development Project - IFAD
Tashigang and Mongar Area Development Project
Building on the experience gained through the Small Farm Development and Irrigation Rehabilitation Project, this project targeted the districts of Tashigang and Mongar in Bhutan’s poor eastern zone. The project’s overall objective was to assist the government in its efforts to increase food production and farm incomes in the two districts.
Within the project’s framework, IFAD funds supported:
- intensification of agricultural production through establishment of an adaptive trial centre, expanded extension services, improved inputs and credit delivery to farmers
- improved infrastructure through expanded irrigation systems and construction of feeder roads
- women’s weaving activities, through assistance in production and marketing of woven goods
