Tafilalet and Dades Rural Development Project - IFAD
Tafilalet and Dadès Rural Development Project
Because of a lack of employment opportunities, a low literacy rate and an arid climate, the project area is one of the poorest areas in Morocco. Agricultural resources such as water, irrigable land and collective pastureland were being degraded under the pressures of a constantly growing population.
The project’s aim was to improve production capacity and living standards among the poorest farmers and herders in the region, including women, while halting environmental degradation.
Project design focused on community participation and accountability in decision-making, in implementing activities, and in building local institutions for resource management and use.
