Mewat Area Development Project

IFAD was the sole financier of this project, which aimed to improve living conditions in the Mewati community, promote self-reliance on a sustainable basis and broaden the range of livelihood opportunities available to the community. Among the project’s major achievements were:

• increasing participants’ perception of the importance of resource conservation
• increasing the potential of women’s self-help groups to bring about change and heighten women’s self-confidence
• involving non-governmental organizations in community development
• reaching a 100 per cent rate of loan repayment among self-help groups
