Coastal/Midlands Agricultural Development Project - IFAD
Coastal/Midlands Agricultural Development Project
To improve the living standards in farmers and rural women in the hilly areas of the provinces of Hama, Homs, Lattakia and Tartous, the project supports de-rocking operations over an area of 80,000 ha. Terrace cultivation has been introduced on the reclaimed land and fruit production has improved. Activities also focus on livestock production.
The project has made it possible for small-scale producers to obtain credit from the Agricultural Cooperative Bank (ACB), a state-owned bank with a mandate to support agricultural development and a cornerstone of the government’s comprehensive assistance package to farmers. With ACB financing, small-scale producers are able to buy livestock such as dairy cattle, Shami dairy goats and honey bees.
A technical assistance grant from IFAD supports training for rural women in processing milk by-products for sale in large cities in the project area.
